POIPU RESORT AREA
This stretch of coastline along Kauai's southern shore is also known as the Poipu Beach Resort. At the west end is the location of the famous Spouting Horn and the Kukuiula Harbor & Park. Just inland is the Kiahuna Golf Course with some exquisite homes within the Kiahuna Golf Village. The Kiahuna course winds around the ancient remnants of a Hawaiian village and there is a particular calm one gets when playing this course. The Hawaiian spirits may be watching over those that play here.
All along this coast there are a number of luxury hotels and condominium resorts. At the center of this resort area is the Poipu Beach Park, a very popular hang out for sunbathers and beach-goers of all kinds. It's a great location for children, teens and adults, whether they are swimming, snorkeling, catching waves or just frolicking. There are a number of other smaller sandy beach areas along this southern area that are also quite enjoyable. You will just have to seek them out. Some are located in front of the hotels or condominiums, so you may have to search for them. Here's two big hints .... Sheraton / Kiahuna Beach and the Beach House Beach.
On the eastern end of the Poipu Beach Resort area you will find two other smaller resorts within this larger Resort area. They are called the Poipu Kai Resort and the Poipu Bay Resort. The Poipu Kai Resort is a planned development of homes and condominiums. Long term residents are mixed in among vacationers and it makes for a good combination. Most everyone seems to be enjoying life to its fullest. Poipu Bay Resort consists primarily of a large luxury hotel and the Poipu Bay Resort Golf Course. This golf course is one of the more challenging in all of Hawaii, but the beauty and the views make it well worth it. These two Resorts are adjacent to the well known "Shipwreck Beach" at Keoniloa Bay. This beach deserves its name, so do not tempt fate here. It is a great place to go to observe the very experienced surfers and boogie boarders, when they are there. Sometimes .... even they are wise enough to go to other places.
