Poipu Beach Resort is on the southern shore is one of Kauai's four Visitor Destination areas (VDA). At the west end you will find the famous "Spouting Horn" and the KukuiulaHarbor & Park. Inland is the Kiahuna Golf Course together with some exquisite homes within the KiahunaGolfVillage. The Kiahuna course winds around the ancient remnants of a Hawaiian village. There is a particular calm and peacefulness one feels when playing this course. The Hawaiian spirits may well be watching over those that play here.
All along this coast there are a number of luxury hotels and condominium resorts. At the center of the resort area is the PoipuBeachPark, a very popular hang out for sunbathers and beach-goers of all kinds. It's a great location for children, teens and adults, whether they are swimming, snorkeling, catching waves or just frolicking. There are a number of other smaller sandy beach areas along this southern coast that are also quite enjoyable. You will just have to seek them out. Some are located in front of the hotels or condominiums, so you will have to search for them.
On the eastern end of the PoipuBeach Resort area you will find two other smaller resorts within this larger Resort area. They are called the Poipu Kai Resort and the PoipuBay Resort. The Poipu Kai Resort is a planned development of homes and condominiums. Long term residents are mixed in among vacationers and it makes for a good combination. Most everyone seems to be enjoying life to its fullest. PoipuBay Resort consists primarily of a large luxury hotel and the PoipuBay Resort Golf Course. This golf course is one of the more challenging in all of Hawaii, but the beauty and the views make it well worth it, for even the most inexperienced.
Both of these resorts are adjacent to the well known "ShipwreckBeach" at KeoniloaBay. This beach deserves its name, so do not tempt fate here. It is a great place to go to observe the very experienced surfers, boogie boarders, and cliff divers when their around. Sometimes, even they are wise enough to head to smoother waters when "surfs up". When the water's calm, enjoy!
